Ford-GM Skirmish for US Number 1

American automobile industry giants – Ford and General Motors skirmishing for place under the sun. Ford is claiming Ford models sales in 2005 were more than those of Chevrolet; in its turn General Motors stands its ground and seek to move Ford to second place.

Ford officials intend to request GM to stop advertising Chevrolet as US “number 1” car make. Thus GM counters this alleging the advertising was legal and righteous based on factual sales rates. Last month both companies issued its annual sales reports that witnessed Chevrolet brand was 2005 best seller with 21 100 cars advantage over Ford.
But last Sunday Ford representatives announced that according to R.L. Polk & Co. analytic agency research Ford brand was 5 000 cars ahead of Chevrolet in new vehicle registration ratio.

Additionally, Ford officials stressed that Ford is not going to declare it leadership in 2005 and its request is just GM put away its advertising.
In response GM announced that cars registered number can not coincide with cars sold number since some people could have bought vehicles in 2005 but didn’t manage to register them in 2005 so the only way to define the leader brand of US auto market in 2005 is to judge by real sales making Chevrolet N1!
