Smart Cars May Gain New Brand Name

Smart, subdivision of Mercedes Car Group, signed an agreement of mutual understanding with British Project Kimber Consortium. Under this agreement unprofitable Smart Company delivers to consortium the right to remake, produce and sell roadsters and roadsters-coupes previously manufactured my Smart.

In addition the consortium gains the right to give its cars new name, other than Smart; the agreement also provides that Smart will sell all its machines and equipment to the consortium as the plant is inert and Smart model put off production long ago.

In fact, roadster and roadster-coupe manufacturing was stopped last in 2005 in the frames of company restructuring program. Those models never entered US and Canada markets though initially were intended for.

Remarkably, Geneva International Auto Show will see limited Collectors Edition of those two models brought by Smart.
