By 2020 FCV Will Remove All Gas Engine

According to opinion of researchers, businessmen and ecologists gathered for annual conference arranged by US National Hydrogen Association, by 2020 every auto dealer salon will be selling cars with hydrogen engines and each house will be heated by hydrogen generator.

Though hydrogen technologies rest still more a pure science fiction than a reality for an average person.
Even the most zealous activists and supporters of ecology harmless technologies admit that there are obviously main 4 problems for enabling wide hydrogen application to transport sphere. These are: hydrogen fuel storage, fuel cells durability, hydrogen cars prices, servicing of FCV.

The most important among the problems is tankage capacity. Hydrogen tank with average gasoline tank dimensions can bear 3 kilos of compressed hydrogen which is enough to cover 200-280 km. But as Jeffrey Serfuss, US National Hydrogen Association chief, considers, “we should construct distance capability of at least 500 km with one charge”.

Main car manufacturers hope to resolve the problem of hydrogen tankage distance by 2010 using their experimental models but serial models construction may be delayed up to 2020.

Remarkably that first automobile using hydrogen as fuel was constructed long in 1964 by General Motors on the base of famous rear-engine equipped Corvair though hydrogen fuel cell were taking almost all car’s useful space inside.
