Powered by V10 power unit, new BMW M6 Convertible is a real pledge of performance. This fast-revving engine forms a perfect match with the optimum gear and final drive ratios. As a fact the BMW M6 Convertible power and performance engine concept flows directly from Motorsport; This can be proved by the rate of more than 100 hp per litre is truly outstanding for a normally-aspirated engine. Variable double-VANOS camshaft control, in turn, ensures an optimum gas cycle at all times. Individual throttle
butterflies on each cylinder with full electronic control give the V10 of new M6 Convertible yet another enhancement from its motor racing heritage. The high-speed V10 of new M6 offers uncompromising output at all levels and in all situations. As fast acceleration also requires fast and precise gearshift, the BMW M6 Convertible comes as standard with BMW’s Sequential M Gearbox (SMG) complete with Drivelogic system. Seven-speed SMG delivers the engine power to the rear wheels via the drivetrain, offering an extremely fast and efficient shifting.
SMG can be handled either via the selector lever or through gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.
Uncompromisingly, SMG Drivelogic system gives the new BMW M6 Convertible driver 11 different driving programmes allowing them to adjust the gearshift rates of SMG to their preferred style of motoring. Six of the 11 programmes can be pre-selected within the manual gearshift functions called together S-mode and allowing the driver to shift gears by hand according to their personal preferences. The only exception here is the Launch Control function feature which enables the maximum acceleration of new M6 Convertible from a standing start. Safely gearshift functions required are completed automatically by the gearbox given the ideal point and optimum slip control. The remaining five programmes of SMG are automatic and found in D-mode.
As a result the BMW M6 Convertible acceleration time from 0-100 km/h comes in 4.8 seconds with the standing-start kilometre completed in just 22.9 seconds. This supreme performance continues all the way to the car’s top speed limited electronically to 250 km/h.
