Opel Antara Crossover Launched

As announced Opel will launch in 2006 new 5-door crossover model – Opel Antara. The prototype of the serial model was demonstrated at Russelsheim General Motors design center while the official Opel Antara introduction is dated for the Paris International Motor Show, on 30th of September.

The crossover prototype – Opel Antara GTC concept car debuted at auto stage in the frames of IAA Frankfurt International Motor Show in September, 2005. Still that prototype was a 3-door automobile. The serial Opel Antara will have 4570x1850x1700 dimensions and the engine line of three power units including 2.4 petrol 141 h/p, 2.0 turbo diesel and V6 3.2 224 h/p petrol. Antara will be attached with 5-gears manual transmission or hydro ActiveSelect type. The pricing issues for new Opel Antara crossover provide for that European basic price starts with 26 850 euros.

As the Opel press release states the main peculiar thing of Opel Antara lies in the contrast of powerful, sporty lower part and plain lines of inner compartment so that the designers realized the idea of off-roader and family trip-destined car combination. Hans Demant, the Opel management director, supposes that Opel Antara has promising future as the crossover+offroader market segments doubled since 1998 and the incentives estimates display further growth.
