“Moskvich” The Brand

These cars can carry as much as none of another car in such class can. Next step in development was “2141”. It wasn’t successful rusting, breaking, clattering all its parts. Even “Reno” engine and other famous car producer’s complete units didn’t make this car better. But at the time when the world saw the first “Moskvich” it was progressive and high performanced, and in its long life where interested and vivid pages.
Part one “Jeeps”
How do you think what was the first citizen’s off-road car in USSR? “Niva” ! This story began at the end of 50-th last century. The car factory MFEAF (Moscow Fuel-Efficient Automobile Factory our days AZLK) had analyzed success among the buyers of the previous model of the GAZ namely GAZ-72. And they decided to produce such auto themselves. It took several years and lot of efforts but in 1957 “Moscvich-410” was production-run. It has 35-horsepower engine with 3-steps gearset that had used the “402” modification. It became very popular especially in countryside. But still it had a poor design. And at the end of 50-th “411” modification was born. In contrast to previous models it had more powerful engine and four-step gearset. The main disadvantage was instability at the high speed. In 1958 the Soviet Government decided to begin fabrication of new generation fuel-efficient off-road automobile. As a base was chosen MFEAF, really in such scale it was the first attempt in the World. Russians like making impressions.
Since 1958 to 1960 were leading active researches and though they hadn’t had lot of money they did it. Engineers worked out two modifications it was “Moskvich-415” that had canvas roof and “Moskvich-416” with metal one. Inside there were installed two seats ahead for passenger and for driver, besides them along bead located two-seat benches. In additional it has heating system, wind-screen worming and reliable dust-filtering system too. The most amazing thing it is the size of this model it has almost “Niva” proportional, length – 3.5m, width – 1.7m. It should be the first mass produced auto for countryside. But because MFEAF hadn’t enough working area they couldn’t begin production immediately. And after one year this idea loose its urgency, the main aim for them in such time began earning money. Among the autos MFEAF was produced that time “Moskvich- 407” has trade success. Main importers were Finland; also Norway and also Sweden bought this cars. In 1961 forcing wishes of factory heads Soviet’s Autoprom closed all researches in this way and the first car in this class was appeared only 17 year after this it was called “Niva”.
