Do you track the global car makers’ deals and mergers? I do but many people still can’t understand that, they are so many, multi-level and complicated… So I want to bring some order there.

• Alfa Romeo – owned by Fiat

• Aston Martin – now owned by Ford

• Audi - Volkswagen-Audi Group subdivision

• Bentley - Volkswagen-Audi Group part

• BMW – independent company

• Bugatti – part of Audi from Volkswagen-Audi Group

• Fiat - independent with a GM stake

• Ferrari – part of Fiat

• Jaguar – part of Ford

• Lambourghini - owned by Audi

• Lotus - GM has major stake

• Mercedes – independent and controls the DaimlerChrysler Group

• MG – subdivision of Rover

• Mini - "borrowed" from Rover by BMW

• Peugeot - independent

• Porsche - independent

• Renault - independent

• Nissan – Renault subdivision

• Rover – independent company and Land Rover is owned by Ford

• Rolls-Royce – the name owned by BMW, the rest owned by VW

• Seat - subdivision of Volkswagen-Audi Group

• Volkswagen – basic part of Volkswagen-Audi Group

• Volvo - cars owned by Ford.

So I hope I’ve dispelled some gaps and myths in your mind.
