My article is devoted to a sporty off-roader and luxury-class saloon all in one. It’s difficult to deny yourself a pleasure to test your car, especially if it’s the VW Touareg, a luxury SUV. 4XMotion permanent four-wheel drive, hill climb capability - 100 percent or 45 degrees, overhang angle - 28 degrees. But this is not the whole story. There are things you value more such as comfort and luxury. Touareg allows you to enjoy the heated leather multifunction steering wheel, the chrome strips on the dash, the brushed metal pedals and some other luxuries – such level of comfort is not available in usual off-road vehicles that are called ‘walkers in the mud’. Every detail in the Touareg reveals a devotion to high-grade materials, top quality workmanship and refined elegance. Two engines are offered initially, with a monster motor waiting in the wings. All are linked to a six speed automatic transmission (a manual is contemplated for future release). The six will go from 0-60 in about 9.4 seconds, and has a governed top end of 122 mph. Its top speed is 225 km/h.
The combination of power and luxury is a choice of a modern gentleman. The real gentleman is always in search of adventures. He is bored without them. Off-road, Touareg answers questions that its owners will never ask. On road, it's accomplished and flexible. Overall, VW's new SUV may well be the best, all around, dual purpose vehicle for the money, period.
