Tata, 2001, Safari Wagon TDi 4dr Man 5sp 4x4 2.0DTHello AMC community!
I still don't have a car of my own, but I have a big driving experience and able to value a cool car properly ;)
My German uncle Peter used to do a lot of archaeological research on the territory of Iran before United States started the war in that region.
Archaeological research is always the most costly, but the discoveries archeologists make are the most valuable, no matter if mere pieces of ancient dishes and rusty utensils or gem statues and golden coins were discovered. In any case the vehicles archaeologists use should be the most powerful, roomy, temperature-proof and durable.
When making his research in the hot deserts of Iran my uncle used a Tata Safari, a Turbo Diesel 4-door AWD wagon built in 2001. Perhaps this wagon ain't that costly, but he managed to buy it cheap from an American who used to run a small exotic fruit business in Middle East.
This vehicle was already quite adjusted to hard desert conditions, its engine soldered up with plastic against the ubiquitous sand and its saloon equipped with 2 powerful air-conditioners. This superb wagon of my uncle's was enormously roomy, with enough space for 7 passengers and a capacious trunk, equipped with an economical 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine making just enough hp to cross any sand drifts on the roads and transport any number of heavy archaeological findings.
Another good point about this wonderful car was that it consumed well the cheap low-quality petrol most common for that economically underdeveloped region, plus any of spares it consisted of were easy to replace with the ones of other car brands more popular in Iran.
It's still very pity that after USA invaded the region uncle Peter had to sell this awesome desert rover to American armed forces and stop his research. Perhaps in several years he'll be able to continue it, after the war stops...
